Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. B Corps are accelerating a global culture shift to redefine success in business and build a more inclusive and sustainable economy. MiiR has been a Certified B Corp since 2014.
Measuring organizational carbon emissions is important - but it is only a first step in progressive climate action. The priority of The Change Climate org (issuer of The Climate Label) is to get companies to focus on what comes next: using the insights from carbon measurement to take measurable actions. To become certified and earn The Climate Label, companies must adopt an internal carbon fee to support the climate transition, and then fund projects that cut emissions from their operations and supply chain. They may also fund high impact carbon removal and mitigation projects around the world. Companies must include cradle-to-customer emissions, and clearly report their emissions along with plans and targets for reductions. The climate progress of companies with The Climate Label is independently evaluated each year.
1% for the Planet is an international organization whose members contribute at least 1% of their annual sales to environmental causes. Their mission is to “build, support and activate an alliance of businesses financially committed to creating a healthy planet.” While MiiR has been issuing grants to trusted nonprofits since inception, we codified our commitment to environmental organizations by becoming a 1% For the Planet Business Member in 2017.
Companies that are awarded Certified Evergreen status with the Tugboat Institute have undergone an extensive, rigorous assessment with the intention of continuous improvement and enduring excellence around values, practices, and people. MiiR first became Certified Evergreen in 2022.
The OIA’s Climate Action Corps was founded in January 2020 with the goal of bringing together brands, retailers, manufacturers, and suppliers while supporting organizations to harness the power of collaboration to address the threat of climate change to the outdoor industry. Corps members commit to share progress annually, demonstrating accountability toward a shared industry-wide climate-positive goal and emphasizing progress over perfection. MiiR has been a member of the Climate Action Corps since 2021.
FSC certification ensures that products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits. MiiR’s hang tags and kraft backer cards are FSC certified (made from 100% wood pulp), and the rest is made from 90% recycled material with only 10% wood pulp (on shelf boxes and inners / outers).
